Johnson Power Shift II control box question...

my 1973 Johnson power shift II control box has a white wire coming out of the bottom. looks factory installed. anyone know what the wire is used for?

It wouldn't be original, so all we can do is guess. You will have to open it up and see where it is coming from. My guess somebody added it for a tachometer or a lanyard type kill switch.
