Johnson optical igniton

Hello all,
What are the two tabs on the optical ignition labeled "low" and "high" and how are they set, what do they do? I see there is a "-" and a "+" side to the piece they index on. Please explain it's function.

They are used to set the ignition timing. An OEM factory service manual would really help you. I can't type that long to explain the procedure.
