Johnson 9.9 hp Year?

Hi Can anyone tell me what the year of this Johnson 9.9 hp sailmaster motor a friend gave me, mod # is J106ELCID serial #G811519. and any other little tidbits about the motor would be fantastic Thank You

that engine is a 1981.

Those have a problem with the water tube grommet under the powerhead. They close up and stop water flow. So, if you get an overheating problem and changed everything, that is where to look. Otherwise, a good engine.

Fairly easy, especially if you get a OEM manual. You should change the impeller ASAP anyways, so you can inspect the grommet while you have the gearcase down.

The grommet I'm talking of requires removing the powerhead to replace, not real difficult. To chek it, remove the gearcase, remove the thermostat and run water through the tube where the water pump attaches in the midsection. If there is a lot of back pressure, the powerhead water tube grommet will need replacing.

Thx Flabum and Hightrim. Another probably stupid question. What is the difference between an OEM manual and an OMC manual? I found an OMC manual on ebay but not an OEM. Thx your help is greatly appreciated.

OEM just means Original Equipment Manufacturer, it is a generic term, meaning OMC in your case. Without getting too complicated, OMC is the original Johnson/Evinrude owner before BRP bought it, confusing eh?? The OMC manual is the one that you want.

BTW (by the way ) BRP is Bombardier Recreational Products

OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer. In your case the OEM is OMC. Rick
