I am looking at purchasing a johnson 8hp for my inflatable, and the person selling it does not know much about it except they think it is a 2000. the model # is J8RVSIE. can anyone tell me if this is a 2 or 4 stroke, and about how much this engine will weigh? Lastly, any comment as to how you think this model will perform for this purpose.
Thanks,

Re: Johnson 8hp

It is actually a 2001. Should be fine for the inflatable. About 56lbs dry.

Howdy, Dugboat.

Welcome to iboats. :)

It's a 2 stroke. Mix fuel at 50 parts 87octane unleaded to 1 part TC-W3 outboard oil. That is 1 pint oil to 6 gallons gas.

Good luck. :)

Re: Johnson 8hp

So i bought this engine - runs great, starts right up on a single pull, water pumping well..., but there are two small holes near the bottom front of the lower unit that shoot water when running (clean) and after shut down a brownish mixture is seeping down. Does anyone know what this is / where it is coming from (i don't have a manual yet for it). Thanks,

Do you know what i would be searching for in the FAQ's? I put in a few semi-descriptive phrases, but it comes back with 1,000 - 1,500 threads dealing with every johnson... known
