Does anyone know what kind of starter motors would work in this outboard?
Are you talking about modifying it to have an electric start?

it originally comes with Johnson part number

383031....

You can find the original rewind starter Assembly on ebay for around $300.

Not sure of an answer if you mean switching that out for an electric starter.

Thanks for the response. Yes, I'm talking about modifying it to have an electric start. The pull starter it has works fine.

I'm thinking of using this as a trolling motor. My 72 yo shoulder has rotator cuff issues and I'd rather not be pulling starter cords.

The trolling motor I use is a relatively new Tohatsu 6hp. It doesn't appear to have a toothed flywheel, although I haven't taken the pull start assembly off. I'm pretty sure an electric start requires a toothed flywheel - correct?

Those motors were never offered with electric start.----I suppose a handy man could fit something on there.----But it must be explosion proof !!
