I am getting to know this engine on a new-to-me boat and have a question:

The engine cover says VRO on the front, which I believe is an oil injected designation. However, it must have been removed at some time because there is no oil tank. Also, there is a short tube attached next to where the fuel line attaches that is plugged and does not go anywhere.

Also, inside the engine cover, there is a set of three wires that come over the top of the engine that have been unplugged from the where they continue down to near where the fuel pump is. Are they part of the disconnected VRO system or are they for something else and should be plugged back together?

All signs that the oil injection system (VRO) has been disconnected. Just make sure that the wires are taped up and secured. The line next to the fuel line would have been the oil line. Mix TCW-3 oil at a 50:1 ratio in the tank and you should be good to go..

We have identical motors almost....mine was also disconnected, the exact same way you have described it. Honestly, its probably better that way....this way you know by premixing that you are getting good lubrication to everything. If that VRO is weak or malfunctioning....it wouldnt be long before the motor was doomed.
