Johnson 55 hp-Having trouble removing the foot!

Hi,
I am trying to remove the foot of the motor to see what the problem maybe with the gear box jumping out of gear. I have removed the 4 bolts and the prop but, the foot still won't budge. Am I missing something? Is there still something to remove? Any feedback is appreciated! Cheers... (The motor is a Sea Horse 1976 model)

What are you going to do with it once you get it off? Nevermind, sorry I asked. But there is a bolt in the middle under the anti-cavitation plate and a hidden bolt above the trim tab fin (remove the fin for access). And the shift rod has to be disconnected first.

Since you obviously know nothing about it, the first thing you need is a factory service manual.

The symptoms you described a week ago are those of a spun prop. Have you investigated that fully in the way Ezeke suggested and definitely eliminated that as the problem?

Would have been nice if you had reported back on that.

Concur, make absolutely certain it isn't a spun hub before you tear the lower apart and do not even consider tearing the lower apart without an OEM manual.

Replacing a prop is cheap, anything in a lower is at least $200, it goes up from there rapidly.

Define again "jumping out of gear", it feels like you hit something in the water when it does this or it slowly picks up rpm and looses speed?

I have been inside a lower as I'm sure FR and Vic.s have and we are just trying to save you from yourself, there is nothing in there that you can fix without the right OMC tools.

Have you done the spun hub test? If so what were the results and we will go from there.
