Hey, seems like it's slow so thought I'd contribute a little. Picked up this 1985 johnson 50 (j50lco) earlier in the year and finally got around to working on it this weekend. Old guy (older than me
) says is 85 is to big for his 15 footer and was interested in the 50. I actually purchased it for the gearcase for my 87 40 but after a compression test (150) couldn't see having it be a parts motor. This was a trade in at a local Yamaha dealer. Fixed a few minor things then before I put in money in it I fired it up. Ran well.
Did my usual things, pulled the gearcase... vacuum tested it and put a complete water pump kit in it, yanked the carbs and put two OEM kits in it. Very simple carbs in my opinion. Grease, gear oil the works.
Fired it up and while it's running well I've got some small gas drops shooting from the top air orifice on the top carb only.
Never seen that before. Vents are dry. I'm going to pull the carbs and check the floats but maybe I need to dig farther.
Anyone ever witness this?
Maybe my tube needs sealing.
Video is tough but during one sequence you can see it...doesn't stop and it continuous.
Beautiful motor....not to bad for a 41 year old motor.
