johnson 3 cyl elec shift 55-60 hp compatability

Can anyone tell me if a 1969 johnson 3 cylinder 55 hp with electric shift and a 1971 60 hp same make have many compatable parts? I plan on buying the 55 hp for parts, carbs, cd box, starter ,coil etc. I know electric shift can be problematic and would like to have as many spare parts on one motor as possible to avoid a messy pile of parts . Any advise is much appreciated thanks stan.

Many parts are the same, and many are different. So you have to consider each separately. The lower units are different inside, but I think you can swap the entire thing as a unit. (Unverified)
