Re: johnson 25 not charging

I test the battery voltage with motor fast idling. Less than 12.7 VDC says not charging. Then measure AC voltage across the yellows from the stator ... if you don't get 18 to 20 VAC or more, the stator has quit. Otherwise, the rectifier is NG. All of the above assumes all the associated wiring is OK (no shorts, high resistance terminations, etc.)

Re: johnson 25 not charging

Two reasons batteries go dead:

Not charging

Drawing more juice (amp hours) out than you are putting back in. That means it will go flat even if charging if, for instance, you are running a trolleing motor off it.

EDIT: make that 3 reasons:

A "parasite" load drawing current when it is not supposed to be.

Welcome to iboats.

That is a 91 by the way. What are your current voltage reading, both off and while running? Let us know what you find.

Got it fix shipmates. It was charging all along. My ignition was sticking so the starter motor was lifted and just kept spinning. And that was draining the battery. every days alearning day. Thanks from BELFAST N.IRELAND:D
