Thanks for the link kfa. Nice detailed step by step with great visuals. I did look it all over again, and I am confident everything is in order as far as the carb goes. The one thing I will be doing is trimming the backside of the bowl gasket material and adding the other intake manifold gasket to the newer one like it shows.

Re: Johnson 20 hp Seahorse no power at WOT

Just read a older post here on iboats about bad reed symptoms. I do get a lousy idle, get blow back, and have no power. so I figured I would give it a shot and pull the intake manifold and look at them. They were in good shape, no cracks, bends or anything. I know they rarely fail but I was running out of ideas. Anything else I should be looking for now that Im in there?...

Try running the engine at night and very dark with the cowl off; see if you have a spark leakage somewhere to the block which might cause a weak spark. You can tell this is reaching, but who knows?

Or you have a cracked block or leaky crank seal.

Notice the gunk build up on the leaf plate on the pics below. Is this normal? Also is it possible that one of them might have just been sticking a bit causing my problem? I mean the reeds look great. Nice and flat, no dings, bends, or any damage to them at all. What should I clean the plate up with? Also never have really done anything with the reeds on my outboards (never had a problem with them)...Should I apply a coat of any type of light lubricant under the leafs themselves for easier movement or no?

I was thinking about it...doesnt make much sense to lube it since the fuel/oil mix will keep it lubed...
