Thank you to everyone who helped me on my other post........this one is related
J130 PLSSS

Compression on port side is non existent..... so its internal obviously and motor will need to be rebuilt.
i found a remanufactured one on EBAY and was contemplating having it shipped to me.

1. Is the powerhead easy to remove or do you need to be rocket scientist to figure it out?
2. any special tools required?

How would i be able to troubleshoot why my motor overheated? I don't want to replace with a new one and run into the same problem.
Any help would be great and thanks in advance

It is easy to remove the powerhead, you need a powerhead lifting tool as well as a flywheelpuller to remove the powerhead for dismanteling. When you have removed the trouble piston you can see how the piston and cylinder look and you can diagnose the reason.

i just went through this, forget the ebay thing. buy it from a reputable rebuilder and get a warranty.
otherwise your buying a can of worms.
powerhead removal is not that difficult its the salt and corrosion that can make it a bear.

An OEM Factory Service Manual would really help you out.

Got the manual ordered. eBay motor was sold so I have a guy who's gonna rebuild it. I have to get him the power head though. Flywheel puller? Homemade job or special tool. The power head was supposedly rebuilt 8 mths ago so hopefully the bolts won't be stubborn

Thank you for the help

You can use a harmonic balancer puller along with some grade 8 bolts to pull the flywheel. If you can find an extra center bolt for it, you can weld a ring to it for a p/h puller. Pull the p/h first, then the flywheel.
