My husband is trying to fix some scratches on our jetski. The hull is black, and he used Evercoat polyester gel paste, with plenty of color. The problem is that after he polishes it the repaired area looks transparent if wet. Any advice for him?

If it looks transparent then there's either not enough pigment in it, or the layer of paste is too thin to hide well. There's no fix other than redoing the repair.

He did the repairs twice. First time he put color as instructed, 1 part to 20 parts of gel. Second time he doubled the color, and is still transparent. The scratches are not deep, just cosmetic...

It doesn't matter what the instructions say, if there's not enough pigment it will be some level of transparent. Back putty or gel coat will at about 10 mils (1 mil = 1/1000 of an inch), tint on your own stuff is a little trickier, but if it's that thick and still transparent there's not enough pigment in it.

I uploaded some photos, and at this point we think the resin might be bad, because even with the right prep and temperature it still chips in some parts and the color doesn't seem to stick. When polishing it the residue color is white instead of being black...

With all the reflections in the pics it's hard to see exactly what's going on.
