My son-in-law has disappeared. :(

He went shopping Sunday, bought a couple of antiques, then vanished. There has been no evidence found to suggest that he planned to disappear.

Your thoughts and prayers would be appreciated. My daughter and three of my grandsons are very upset.

Re: JB has troubles,

I pray for his safe return to your daughters family. I honestly hope your daughter and her children receive a happy homecoming very soon. :(
This must be tough as a father and grandfather. Whether you feel stressed or not, make sure you take care of yourself as well as your family when you are lending a shoulder of support. They need you now, and will need you more as this unfolds. Good Luck Jb, I am praying for a good conclusion for your family.

Re: JB has troubles,

He has been reported as a missing person to the police, and the Army has him down as AWOL, but both are only passively looking for him.

He recently had a toxic reaction to medication, with psychotic symptoms. He stopped the medication but hadn't started a substitute.

He was due to deploy overseas on Monday and the stress may have triggered disorientation. I do not believe that he ran away in fear.

Thank you for your kind thoughts. I am pretty badly stressed myself. My daughter and the boys are in Tacoma, a long way from Texas.

Re: JB has troubles,

I am not surprised the police in that area are not dropping everything to search. I have a friend in the Pierce Co Sheriffs office (which includes Tacoma) and they always seem to be somewhat short-staffed, and field a multitude of calls regarding problems with servicemen from Ft Lewis, and McChord AFB. Sometimes, they just get inundated with them. Along with all the normal calls as well.
I don't know how competent your daughter is under stress, but someone needs to check banks for charge card and ATM card activity and the like for a start. Unless there is specific credible evidence of foul play, it is not likely the police will pursue this very quickly.
I have you in my thoughts, of course, and hope all turns out well...

Re: JB has troubles,

Thanks for the info, Plywoody. I had surmized as much.

I have given my daughter a list of questions for banks, merchants, credit card companies, border officials and ERs. She is an ER Nurse and he is an Anesthetist, so she has contacts in the medical world.

I explained to her that, as you said, without clues of foul play the police and military will remain fairly passive.

She is very tough, but it kills me to be so far away. I will give it a week or so, then I am off to Tacoma.

Thanks all, for your thoughts.

Re: JB has troubles,

I wish you the best and that you find him in short order. It could be a memory/disorentation thing as I doubt anyone with military training would have been taken anywhere agianst his will w/o there being any signs of foul play.

Re: JB has troubles,

Yes, it must be very difficult to be so far away.
Pierce County can be a very dangerous environment, and always seems to be very active from a police activity point of view. The Pierce Co sheriffs office has been featured on the "Cops" show on numerous occasions.
As an ER nurse, especially in that area, I am sure your daughter is fully capable of dealing in a stressful environment.
I wish, of course, I could be more help, and truly hope all turns out well.

Re: JB has troubles,

Wow, JB. That's terrible! He will be in my prayers. From your explanation and description of his med situation, it's actually a small chance of foul play, and hopefully, he will regain some normalcy in the abscense (SP) of his meds..Unless he took a supply with him.
I used to live next door to a Korean War vet, who was on Pork Chop (i think it was) Hill, and his company was shelled for 2 days off-and-on. I mention this because of his M.O. of forgetting to take his meds, and would end-up under a car screaming and in utter terror. We (the entire nieghborhood), would look-after him as best we could.
And I'm hoping that he will "come down", and that there was no foul play.
Have the antique shop owners been of any assistance?

Re: JB has troubles,

Daughter has been doing the investigating I suggested.

Clerks at both antique shops told her he scared them, rambling talk. One clerk was so alarmed that she asked him if he was taking medication or needed medication.

He asked for a raincoat and galoshes at one store and bought an old pair of wire frame eyeglasses at the other. He is not an antique nut. If he visited any other store(s) he did not use his debit card or a credit card. He has not entered Canada.

Does anyone live near Tacoma that can help her deal with police, sheriff, military, etc. for a couple of days until her Mom can get there?

She is a very tough lady but she is at the end of her rope.

If you have any ideas please Email me. :(

jbshideout@aol.com or jbshideout@acninc.net
