Can someone tell me how to jump or bypass trim pump #J1171. This will trim down but it will not go up. We checked the switch. I know there is a way to run a wire off of the battery and touch a contact to make the trim go up but I will be danged if I remember the trick.

Thanks in advance

- Chuck

There are two solenoids over to the left , follow the wires out of the pump motor. One solenoid will be up the other down. Jump it right at the solenoid which is likely bad.
the switch will close the circuit in the solenoids to send power to the motor. Attached a couple of drawings out of merc alpha gen two service manual looks like it matches whats in your pic

On the pump there are 3 wires, Black, Blue and Green.
If you ground the black wire and put +12volts on the Blue that's up.

Thanks to all who replied. And Scott thanks for the information on the pump.

People who are in boating are awesome.

Blue (think sky) up, green (think grass) down. Is it old enough to still have the separate trailer switch on the throttle control? If so does it work and the thumb switch not? Also try uplugging the pump and back in. This has fixed me a time or two over the years.
