Once again that special time of year has rolled around where millions of Americans have to lie about how much income they had in the previous year. :D

So I am setting out on my annual quest to find the lowest price possible on TurboTax. Found it at Walmart for $42.78 online (TurboTax Deluxe Federal + eFile + State 2010), and Amazon has a download version of the same for $40.83.

Anyone else find a lower price for Deluxe Federal + eFile + State?

That's a great price. I hold accounts with Merrill Lynch and can do the Federal Deluxe with e-file for $19.45 State is an additional $36.95 which I will not pay for. I do the Fed return and then file for free for my Indiana return on the State of Indiana website. I just have to transfer the numbers onto the Indiana site which is a no-brainer.

Just curious.....is there any advantage to downloading Turbo-Tax versus using the online version?

The download version lets your numbers/personal info stay on your pc and not be transmitted across the web every time you hit enter. I will not use the online version. I will efile though. But that is one transmit, not dozens of times.

I use tax cut ( H&R Block at home Deluxe-fed efile and state ), have for years. Snagged it for $37 at Walmart, and then got the wifes 10% discount on top of it. I usually have to pay the state of MN and get something back from the Fed, so the Fed gets e file, the state can eat my paperwork and my hand written check on April 15.

I just e-filed ours via TT Friday. Short forms (we have no itemized deductions anymore) at that now and it still cost us $62.22 with tax.
Next year I will just do the forms myself and mail them.

Go to the IRS website, and look at the free file options. There are plenty of companies that will allow you to do your taxes online for free.

I just did my taxes online, for free. H and R and WI free File.

I was there and my state has nothing you can file for free.
TT will allow you to file fed free too as long as you don't have a high adjusted gross. But then they charge heavy for the state to make up for it.
That's OK, next year it's mail in.
I watch mine very closely on the withholdings and they don't get much extra anymore.

I just checked and Sams Club has Turbo Tax for $29.98, this price includes a $10 instant rebate. I don't need the state form as there is no state tax here.

If you need the state form included it's $39.98.

Just go online. You are buying nothing but a link to their website in the store. You will still download all the new information via their website.
It may cost you the same online but at least compare. You may find it cheaper.
And if your AGI is low enough you should get to file for free, I am not sure about e-filing though. They will get you for everything they can.

I Started using the HR free file years ago.. Used to pay for the "rapid refund" costing us around 100 bucks at a crack. So one year I did my taxers online with the HR site. Took my taxes in and paid for it. They found the same amount of refund as I did from the free file.
Perhaps if your AGI is higher, and you have alot more deductions then I do. It may be worth the 30 bucks to buy the software.

You misunderstand. The stuff on display is only a link to the site which in turn downloads the current stuff.
It does not matter. You still pay for whatever you want online.
You get any software you need there.
There is really no need to buy a disc in a store.
