Here Plywoody, you and I are on exactly the same page. Forest fires used to do the clearcutting. Native americans started fires all the time, and they wern't controlled burns.

As long as we're on the subject. Naturally occurring forest fires used to do "the job" that was taken over by the "clear-cuts" around here. Around here, I believe that the clear cuts were stopped in the 70's.

Forest Service policy has been to extinguish ALL Forrest fires. Between the ban on clear cuts and the mandate to extinguish all forest fires, the forest began to suffer. This policy has led to a lot of litter and dead wood.

During the last drout this led to some absolute infernos that took weeks to get under control.

Now, if the exploding coyote problem can be put in check, in a decade or so, these burnt out areas may develop into some reasonable grouse habitat.

Happy Hunting!

By the way, Oh Yah! It has gone too far!

WVitt 100,

Re. your question to me, waayyy up near the top, you know, the one about kicking god out of the schools. I defer to another thread in this forum. The thread is titled "Scary"
