So I had to get one more ride in yesterday.
Fine, took a ride, brought the boat home, fogged the motor, changed the oil, drained the drive. Then I got tired & quit.
So I woke up early today & went outside to 30 degree temperature. Since I haven't drained the cooling system I took some temps with an IR thermometer.
Car window 31.5, boat window 30, drive 39.5, block 52. So no freeze of the valuables, but I will drain it tonight.
I thought those of you with concerns about freezing would feel a little better knowing how much lag there can be in temperatures.
And by the way, don't bother running a speed boat on an overcast day when the temperature is 52 degrees, brrr. Our ride was very brief.

I went for a quick ride about a week ago solo on a 40 something degree morning, my face was totally frozen! I'm done!

Going fishing this Saturday night, suppose to be 50s with lows in the mid 30 but I have a camper top and heater so until you have to cast or real in a fish it isn't too bad, catfishing is usually pretty good this time of year.

I can normally go until Thanksgiving then it is a crap shoot, last year I think it started snowing 2 days after my last trip so I have a few more to enjoy but I am not looking forward to winter at all.

IR thermometers lie! You have to be very careful using them on any reflective surface, as its very likely indicating the temperature of what is being reflected, not the surface itself. In the case of windows/glass, its reflecting from the sky, so you are partially reading the temperature of either the sun or space, depending on the angle.

35F out side right now. I still have 4-6 weeks before I put the boat up. There is plenty of fish to be caught yet!

If I ever get an I/O I'm going to have to get a heated garage for it so I can use it year-round. We'll have snow for a week in the dead of winter, then it will be in the 60s and 70s the next day... It's supposed to get close to freezing Thursday night, but it's 90 out now!

We pretty much boat all year here in central Florida. We'll suffer the cold ride to find a nice sunny cove to tuck up in and have a nice day out. My avi picture was taken last February at one of our fave stops on the Harris chain call JB Boondocks.

25 knot winds, an approaching hurricane and sloppy seas cut our dive trip short this afternoon. Almost everyone but me and the captain were sick as dogs. Water temps are down to 77 and the air temp was a frigid 80 degrees. Fall has hit. Before you know it the lows will be in the upper 50s with highs as low as 70 or so. Wow. Its brutal down here. :D

Re: It's freezing out

Still living on my boat here in VT. No heat, just a heavy blanket.
There's been frost in the area a couple times, and it's supposed to snow the end of this week, but I still have tropical-ish potted plants on deck that are as green as ever. Water is an ok heat sink for a little while. Your block will definitely take longer than the air to hit the freeze point, and the whole lake area for me will be safe from frost for a few more weeks at least.
