There are many reasons why folks get rid of boats.-----If the drive is good you will get your money back on that alone.--If trailer is good you could now make a profit------Could be a cracked block or other issues.----Buyer beware on a " near free " boat I say.

Bayliners of that era are not known to be very well made and that one does not look like it was particularly well cared for. Unless you're looking for a boat to part out (or a trailer to sell), it's probably not worth anything.

We are definitely not looking for the best boat out there or anything. I'm just wondering is there any reason that we couldnt take it on a lake every now and then.

Since those old Bayliners are usually junk, and seeing that the one in the pic is already broken, I'd say No its not worth $500.

If you got it for free it would probably be the most expensive boat you ever owned, since repairs ain't cheap.

Based on the pic there are a lot of reasons you shouldn't take it out on the lake.

Do they really mean "It held water"? Makes me think of sitting out in the weather with the plug in

If you can get it for free, you could part out what you can, bury the hull to the waterline and make it into a kids playhouse or sandbox.

because that boat is most likely rotten and would probably sink. the loss of property is nothing compared to the loss of life.

no, a $500 bilgeliner like that would require about $4-5k to make it useable.

Don't some of these Bayliners have the nickname of ----Paperliners-------I would not want a free one like that other than to scavenge the parts and trailer.

I only know of the nickname for the Capri's being Bayliner Crappy's... But yeah this generation they were quick chopper gun laid boats with lots of un encapsulated wood. Pretty much junk from the get go.

I tend to like the 80's Capri's with their cool 80's styling, much the same reason I own a 1985 Corvette, and I think many people share that kind of like with them. But Ciera's are not as well taken as there are better boats for the purpose.. And half of this one is missing.

BTW, half the boat is missing. that used to have a windshield and other bits. you can see the interior is gone as you can see the insides of the gunwales
