Homophobia is a tough thing to get past. Personally, I change the channel or avoid anything to do with homosexuality. Its not that I am against it ot hate it. I understand the underlying issues, and I undestand both sides of the situation. I understand why some feel marriage is only for a man and a woman. I also understand why homosexuals are fighting for equality. I just choose not to watch it, because I pretty much don't care either way. No one is trying to make me become homosexual. They aren't sending homosexuals door to door to spread the word of butt-love, unlike the various religions that come to my door to spread the word of God. In fact, a person could say religion pushes harder than homosexuals do to convert everyone into the Collective, but whatever.

Don't like seeing gay pride rallies, don't watch, thats easy enough...

BTW, do you guys really believe there are no such things as gay repubilcans? Their out there, they just hide it because they don't want to be lynched by their intolerant party. Thats just sad....

And yes, I am quite sure there are homophobic gay basher Democrats....Somewhere...

Agreed Jason i see many conventional couples and have to ask my self why is he or she with him or her. As to this bi gender chit i draw the line, im not eveing going there, i could careless, but i could carry on a good conversation with anyone as long as they leave there personal lives out of the discussion, i have to quit there some of us have no taste and im beginning to believe it might be just be me ........................................ Im out some where oregon

No chugger, what we have done is created subgroups where some rights apply to some groups while other groups do not enjoy their benefit.

ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL. I don't know how we could have misunderstood this statement.

"ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL. I don't know how we could have misunderstood this statement." - All it seems to take is a little fear. Minorities don't have any extra rights in terms of protection against violence. It's not about them. It's about the people that are afraid that their world is somehow threatened by them. Hate comes from anger, anger comes from fear, and fear comes from ignorance. An old guy I worked with over 30 years ago taught me that. I've seen the truth of it often since then. The extra protection some minorties seem to be getting is just a little extra incentive to not attack someone because they don't fit our concept of what humanity should be. If I rob a gay person and do nothing but ask for his wallet and get caught I'll be tried for robbery. If I beat the crap out of a gay person for no reason other than I believe he's a degenerate I'll be tried for a hate crime. They're two different crimes if I do them seperately I'll be tried for them seperately. If I do them together I'll be tried for them together.

No chugger, if all men are created equal you get tried for robbery and for assult. When you create "thought" crimes or try to gleen what is in someones heart you are not dealing in facts, the basis of our judicial system. Your example is perfect, you pick a subgroup based on what they enjoy doing, how about hate crimes against bass fishermen. If you want to hear hate try listening to some rapp music. Want a hate crime walk threw Watts or Harlem late at night. Not separating our society into subgroups, how about BET, or Miss Black America or any number of Muslim hate groups. See Calipso Louis. How about the violence against women act? All created equal?

Someone help me with this one, when is an assult on someone else not involve some level of hate? This type of elitest dictate of who is better, who need protection, who gets jobs over others based not on qualification, will serve to continue to divide this country and insult those they intend to serve. We kill the weakest amoung us as a "right". We have to throw out most of our rights (Life, Liberty, and the .. ) when it is inconvenient. Intentions aside, it is reverse racism, or sexism, discrimination and that not only serves nobody, it is unconstitutional and threatens to hurt those who they most intend to protect. IMHO

"The little extra rights" is just incompatable with All Men Are Created Equal. It may be inconvenient for some, but not to those who truely want to be treated equal.

The laws are based on facts not what is in someones heart. The fact is that there is a common set of risks we all share in terms of being assaulted. A drunk looking for a fight, a road rage incident, fighting over who gets the last Xbox on the store shelf, robbery, none of these have anything to do with being a minority. Anyone regardless of who they are could be at risk of any one of these. But there are crimes for which specific groups of people are at a greater risk. Who they are isn't important. If it could be demonstrated that Bass Fisherman are at a greater risk of being assaulted than the average person then they would be entitled to extra protection. Note that I said protection not rights. No minority group is being given a greater right not to be assaulted. Try focusing on the assailant not the victim and it becomes clear why we need hate crime laws.

There are definitly places where I would be at greater risk as a white person. If for some reason I was assaulted for being white I would want the assailant charged with a hate crime. Fortunately I've never had that problem and I've been in places where I was definitly a racial minority. The worst that has ever happened is someone once refused to give me directions to back to my hotel.

Re: Is this America Is this the democratic party?

THis thread started out with one basic question........... is the democratic party about the fringe's of society or about the core. I aasure you all the core of the US is not about being gay, being a feminest or about female abuse......... these are extreme's in our society they are not the norm.......... and if they keep pandering to these absurd idea's they agin will lose the the so called conseratives.

Chugger,
Parse it up anyway you want, EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW, does not afford additional protection for those we feel are entitled to additional rights. And that is exactly what these laws insinuate.

OK. I guess I'm not going to be able to figure out how anyone is getting any additional rights. Thanks for taking the time to reply. You surprised me. Take care.

Chugger,

We rarely if ever reach accord down here in the DC. But that's ok. Sometimes we just need to convince ourselves. ;)
