I finally got a used lower unit for my 1972 65h evinrude it took over a year to find. But the bottom fin and front of the side fins are broke off . Is ther a diagram to see if I can take the insides of the new used one and transfer them to the old broke one that looks brand new or am I worried about nothing . its been 2 years since I ve been on the water thanks for any help
You can look up diagrams on marine engine .com
If they are the same unit then yes you can.
Id do that myself, you can also check the gears when its apart in case its had a hard knock and one or two need replacing
Not sure why it would take a year to find.-----------You can swap the entire contents to the good looking gearcase.--No shimming required at all.--------Might want to install a seal kit.------Test operation of the unit before taking it apart.-----It can be tested on the work bench.
thankyou for reply I live in mt and the unit finally was found in ill. I am a carpenter not a mach, but do you think this is something I should be able to do someone that has all the tools but not know how could do this. I was thinking the diagram would maybe show me the steps, am I crazy, there is really no reliable boat people here in this town
Dears sirs helping me Im trying this do this myself I got all the bolts I could get out but nothing moves the shaft verticle or horizonal are there special clips or something Im not seeing?
every bolt that is seeable including the allen bolt in the side is out the top 8 bolts the 4 bolts behind inside the prop area are all out and the verticle shaft and the prop shaft is not budging are they stuck because of shattered gears and I need to just hit on it?
There is a nut on the bottom of the vertical shaft.-----It will not come out untill you get inside the unit and take that off.----------Put your hammer far away as you will only do big $$$$ damage.
I know this shows my lack of knowledge but I have to ask, I guess I cant see any way in side is that nut seeable on the out side or am I not seeing a way to get down behind the verticle shaft
thankyou this is very helpful I am stuck in a rock and ahard place the book says I need pullers but old timers say I dont I am stopped I guess because I dont have these kind of tools, I cant get either shaft out I see no clips or secret pins to release them
The vertical shaft has a nut on the bottom.-----You need to pull the propshaft bearing housing out first. ---Then you can work your way in to get at that nut !
No you have to remove the bearing housing it may have 5/16-NC threads in it that can be used to pull the bearing housing out.----The propshaft is not the first item that comes out !!!
is there a way to attach a pic onto the form or does that have to be done seperatly its my belief that the pics in the manual are not the same as I have in my hand because I could not find the exact model number mine had a S behind the numbers. I took the 4 screws out inside the housing there are no more screws to remove the housing. maybe mine is different and that is causing the frustration. Im sorry for taking so much of your time. I have all the manuals from both site with the pictures and they do not look like my housing
