Is the 135 Optimax a good motor?

I am buying a new Trophy 2002 and wanted tood mo to know if the Optimax are good motors. Model year 2005.

Optimax engines are bad news. They break down often. I say this based on my bro-in-law going thru 4 brand new 150 optimaxs. They have great power and gas mileage, BUT. It will spank you in the end. This is the norm, Stay away.

The chairman of my fishing club has a 150 optimax for the last 2 years and he has no problems with it. Maybe it was the earlier model which was bad?!

Pre-Y2Ks are iffy. They made significant improvements in this century.

Ditto to what Willy said. Last few years the Opti's have been great. Those first years though, along with the FICHT's from OMC were a nightmare as we all know... A 2005 Opti is a safe bet. <br /><br />Now just wait...someone won't be able to resist throwing in an E-Tec comment....

E-tec... Hmmmm.<br /><br />Overall, Id' say it's hard to go wrong these days.<br />Outboards are better than they've been in a long time. Exciting stuff from all the manfacturer's!
