Hello,
My old winch cable broke and I just got a vinyl 2" rated at 2000 lbs. My winch is rated to 2800 lbs. The boat weighs 5900 lbs. Since the winch is not rated to half the boat weight will this still be OK? I don't drive but maybe 15 min. (not that that would make any difference). I never have to "winch" the boat up just need to tie it down tight. I can get it on the trailer without having to slide the boat on with the winch.

Thanks for any help!

You have a safety chain, right? Shouldn't be an issue, like you mentioned, you aren't really even winching it.

In my opinion, the winch, safety chain, and transom straps, you should be fine. When i picked up my boat, the original owner never used transom straps, or a safety chain. I personally thought he was crazy, and lucky. I pulled out some ratchet straps for the transom, and while i was tying the transom down, he was saying "you dont need them, that boat ain't going anywhere". Again, I thought he was crazy!
