I picked up this 14' 1985 Peterbourough for almost nothing (I know, you get what you pay for)- this is my third boat, but the first I have actually looked to possibly do some serious repairs. Looked clean enough on the outside, the trailer is in excellent conditions, so I figured what the heck- the trailer is worth 3 times what I paid for it.
Anyway- the guy I got it from claimed the plywood was fairly new. After taking the carpet back, it didn't look rotten- but hardly new. I wasn't taking any chances. I pulled the floors up to find what you will see in the pictures below. Three stringers, the center almost completely rotten in the center. Looks like there was no fiberglass over that part, or somehow it wore off.
The foam must have gotten saturated over the period it was outside, which also rotted the stringers. The side stringers look good in some areas, but not so good in others.
I need advice- should I gut this entire hull- replace stringers, fiberglass everything again and re-foam? Or, is it not even worth it based on what you see. Also, there looks like some small cracking going on on the starboard midway point.
I am not going to go crazy throwing money into this small 14' boat. If it is just doing the three stringers with some minor glassing, I think I would want to do it- appreciate any advice.
