is it okay to mix brands of polyester resin?

I'm nearing the final stages of my deck installation. I may be in need of just a little more resin, which my supplier only sells in 5 gal. buckets. Think its okay to use 3m resin that i can get at auto parts store for $30? I didn't know if it would matter using different brands?

Just mix them independently from each other.

Yes and No. The 5 gallon bucket resin prolly does NOT have wax in it and the resin you buy at the Auto Parts store prolly does have wax in it. If you use the one with wax you have to lay all layers simultaneously. If not then you must sand and wash down with acetone between layers if it cures.

You would be doing this no matter what you mixed and matched..

If it cures your boned back to grinding and reprep..

There are so many resins out there that Nobody can positively suggest an Acetone wipedown alone to prep for your next lam(s) .

If its hard..you grind. .. if your resin is just coming out of its heat stage..GO NOW for your next stage.

Or its too late. .. Grind and regroup for your next schedule of lams.

thanks for the help. Is there a way to know if it has wax? i think it is 3M poly resin.

Also, since time is of the essence when doing the floor, do you guys recommend mixing the resin at 1% rather than 1.5% to give more time? Cant hurt right?

The resin should say on the can if it has wax in it. What are your temps?

go 1.7%,

just dont mix a big batch......when you run out....just mix more....you will have the time.

if it gells in the tub on a deck.....you are working way way too slow.

the one percent cat rate is too risky for a new person to use.

the proper cat rate is between 1.7 and 2.5% mekp to resin.

(yes....it says one per cent on the mekp......but they are incorrect !!!!!! they make the mekp.....not the resin !!)
