That boat is so awesome. You really knocked it outta the park.

Thanks... its the same as yours but with red seats ;-)

I don't know how you feel about the location of the oars. I hate how they sit so high up on the chambers (When not in use). Some other inflatables have holders on the sides, leaving the top surface open. I am experimenting with that now.
Ore-side-mount.jpg
Not the cleanest look, but gets them out of the way.

I also found a place to mount the display unit for my FishFinder.
fishfinder-screen-mount.jpg
Not the most elegant, but its simple, secure, and the location is good. I'll use black or clear zip-ties (not green) when I am on the water in case the Fashion-Police pull me over.

RE: Jetski - The lady at my local Marina is trying to get me to buy one of their leftover 2012 Yamaha waverunners. Its tempting. Used to ride them when I was younger. They are fun. The new ones are so much larger and more powerful. Are you looking to get the seated, or standing machines?

Nope, only the trailer, moded to launch the m4

Like the idea about the oars and using the holder to mount the fish finder!

I dont mind mine where they are. You know, if you arent using them and just dont want to leave them behind, you could just break them down and bag 'em.

Yeah, I am on board with this idea BIGTIME. I really dont mind the setup of the boat, but its the tear down after a long day on the water I dislike. deflating and packing away, it can take 1/2 hour, and I am ussually beat. I would love to drive the boat there all set up, back down into the water, slide it in, tie it off, park the truck and go boating. then, doing the reverse at the end of the day. If I did that, I would be incline to build the full wooden floor, make the other motor mount to run the trolling motor up front, and the Gas motor in back, and then make provisions for a v support style bimini. Hey, did you try your prototype bimini out on the water?

@mznewman

Sweet looking setup by the way, I really like the fish finder zip tie location. I’m curious as to where you are deciding to mount the transducer, on trolling motor, or zip tied to one of the (M4) handles? I like the clean look of it all. I also have a 20 or 40 liter dry bag, and will be implementing your gear- overboard idea.

@mznewman and mrdrh99

I think I’m going to go with either a ?” or 5/8” floor, not sure yet. I like the idea of the bass seats and the carpet, but I won’t install either until I know exactly where and how I will (potentially) have my custom motor mount. I definitely want to put it in the front (opposite to the stock motor mount location), and be able to have both a TM and a gas OB on at the same time (like Desode did with his setup).

Question: once cut to dimensions, do I need to sand entire ply (meaning edges AND sides) or just edges? I have this little tool chamfer_plane.jpg which will help me do the edges, and worst case scenario, I will have access to an orbit sander.

Also, what is the height of your pedestal? Are you content with it or do you wish you had gone longer/shorter and if so, why?

(Any of you guys with bass seats/pedestal setups; feel free to chime in on this as well, please.)

Thanks for sharing!!

@ChristianMariner

I agree, not having to setup OR down WOULD be nice!!

Ok, so as promised, here is a pic of my Sat morning catch, a nice 22-24” White Amur (aka, Grass Carp). The cats were not cooperating, so after three hours or so, my buddy and I went to check out one of the many stretches of (irrigation) canals that run through the city and within a half hour of getting there, we managed a couple of nice looking (we each caught one). If you’ve never hooked into one of these bad boys, I suggest you give it try (especially on light tackle, just don’t set the drag to high, they tire easily and don’t handle too much/for too long outside of water, as they are somewhat fragile. They’re very spooky and will hardly ever hit any lure or worm you throw at them, but they go crazy for a piece of floating bread.

I mounted it on the TM. But did not try it out yet. TM mount was recommended by Garmin. Desode's idea to zip-tie to the rear handle is good if you are using different TM's or a gas OB motor. That way the transducer stays with the boat, not the motor.
TM-mount-trnas.jpg
I might go out today and try it out.

The tool looks like a rasp-file or cheese grater (hard to tell from the pic). You can use an orbital sander with a heavier grit paper for the edges, 80 or 60 grit. It does not need to be a perfectly machined radius because you will be wrapping it with carpet. I use belt sander only because it grinds better than an orbital, but orbital will do fine. Just get the splintering edges cut down and round-off the sharp 90degree cut edge. A poor quality plywood will require a bit more effort to prep vs a nice piece. It would not hurt to use the orbital sander on the surface too but no need to go crazy since that too will be covered. The poly or paint will stick as long as you make sure the surface is clean from dust.
poly-glue.jpg
Give yourself a few more inches of wrap around. Mine was tight. Contact cement is super strong, but it would have been faster had I given myself more wiggle room. I cut "v" sections on the curves and the corners so the carpet did not bunch-up sloppily.
more-wrap.jpg

Regarding the seats: I have 12" pedestal plus the swivel. So its about 13" to the bottom of the seat. It is plenty for me, but I am only 5'9". If you are not sure where to place the seats, you can always just make multiple holes for different seat scenarios. I might add 2 more to give me a location that is closer to the center. I think that might be better for me if I am out there alone.

seat-height-13inches.jpg

Also, if you use 1/2" ply, I do think you will need to connect all of your floor sections with an H, C, or joining plate.

Very nice!
When I was younger, the only way we could catch Carp was with corn, doe-ball (bread), or a Bow. At the correct viewing angle with the sun hitting the water, you could see them just covering the creek floor like a blanket.

Man......So I knew I was going fishing this morning. I thought about loading up the boat, but I'm also an avid fly fisherman, and with it being a nice, crisp 52? this morning I decided to forgo the boat and loaded up my waders and fly equipment. 5 hours of wading through frigid water, I caught two brown trout and decided to pack it up.

Man I wish I had taken out the boat.... boating season will be over here in about 6 weeks tops and I may get out two...maybe 3 more times!!!! Ugh!

Here I dug up this shot of how I put my Transducer on the M4 handle.
It worked Great and was Super easy, it rolled right up in the boat.
Notice how the mounting plate sits against the tube behind the handle.
It never came loose and you could still adjust the angle on it by the snap lock on the transducer.
The Flat spot on the bracket and the flat handle with 4 zips tightened down was all it took to hold it secure to the handle with no movement or wiggle.

It was there for over 3 seasons with zero issues.

Excellent.

I did a quick dry-fit with my Garmin echo 150 transducer and should be fine on the handle as well. The mount is different than yours but the zip-ties will hold it square, allowing me to get the final parallel position with the locking swivel fixture.

Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

Scored a new little outboard the other day for the M4 and the 385ft !
It's a 1994 Johnson 2 Hp (water cooled).
I got it for $150 and it was still in the Original Box with the Styrofoam !
It's pretty much like Brand new and it Runs Great !

I tried it yesterday on the 385ft, and I could not believe how quiet it was when trolling !
(Or as us Hilljacks in Ohio would say "Draggin some poles" LMAO )

OMG. You have that entrepreneur gift. Great clip. I would love to see some more pics or video of the 385ft. It did seem very quiet, at least using your voice as a gauge. What does the 2hp weigh? Also, did you try it at full throttle?

winter is the best time to buy outboards! just don't jump into old junk. always run the ob's in a tub testing all the gears and full throttle and buy a compression tester and spark plug wrench. you will get the scammers saying compression is good last time they checked it meanwhile they scamming you. if someone not letting you test compression or run in water DO NOT BUY,

@weimed
What new OB are a good fit for the M4? They are all 4stroke engines now. I don't have any trusted sources for used OB's so I need to consider new.
Thanks

It is very quiet, I wasn't even talking loud in the video, just very lightly .
It weighs 29lbs dry and around 31 with the tank filled up. It runs pretty much a entire day on a tank.
I would guess a gallon would last close to a week of fishing, depending on the size of the lake.
The one lake I fish has 42 miles of shoreline and is a little over 1800 acres of water surface.
I can cover it on a tank.

Yes , I did try it at full throttle. I'm getting 7.5 - 8 mph in perfect conditions (cell gps) and into the wind in chop I'm getting 6.5 mph.
However, the throttle doesn't want to stay up all the way, the slider comes back down a little but I'm looking into seeing if I can tighten it up.
Still i would say that's pretty much the speed of it on the 385ft. That's pretty good for a 2hp,,However I am at the edge of the weight limit on the motor mount (35lbs)

I don't know if I would get that speed on the M4 with a 2hp ?

I'm going to use it on the M4 Hopefully this coming week. If i can get a day free that is.

Here is another little clip of the 2hp on the 385ft running in at the end of the day : https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3yiLTYk72ThTnp6LUstdExSUm8/edit?usp=sharing

Here is a pic of the johnson 2 on the 385ft,, One of My friends said Where is the 50cal Mount ! LOL It does kind of have the look of a vietcong boat.

As for buying outboards the fall and winter is a good time to find one.
I would look for a used one.
Craigslist can be Very good !
If you live in a state where you can still use a 2 stroke, I would go that route ! More power and lighter weight !
Plus the 2 stroke oils out there now are VERY clean compared to back in the day.

If you know about small motors at all, you can pick them up cheap by checking the compression and looking over the engine in general. There isn't a whole lot to a small outboard.

If you Don't know anything about them,,, make sure to tell the seller you want to see it run first.
You probably will pay more that way, but its a good protection if you don't know about small outboards.

Water Cooled is quieter, so keep that in mind too but you need to make sure that it is spitting water or your going to have to probably change the impeller.
As for light weight though, some of the air cooled ones are Crazy light !
There was one made called "cruise n' carry" Model 6700 and it was a 2.7 hp that was only 16-19 pds !
I have came across a couple of them but they were just 1.5hp models and that's not enough for me.

Please keep in mind the Hull speed of the M4,, and the weight of the outboard.
There is a Balancing act here.

More weight in your build will take more hp to get to the M4's hull speed, So Consider that when looking for a little outboard.

Fastest your going to get in the M4 is 8-8.5 mph.

Also, If your using say a 3.5hp and your using the original motor mount on the M4, I would recommend putting a hyrofin on the outboard. This will fix a lot of issues that you will find ! Trust me on this !
It will keep the boat tracking Super straight and it will Level the craft while relieving tension on the motor mount.

Depending on the weight of the outboard , you may want to also bypass the internal tank and use a external.
I did this with my Clinton 3.5 and it helped a good bit with weight displacement.

Sincerely Desode

PS @MZNEWMAN there are still some 2 strokes out there that are brand new, you just have to look around. Yamaha still makes a 2hp.3hp and a 4hp 2 stroke. There are also some places on the web that sell used ones and they are very reputable places.
