intake manifold hot spot

1984 Chris Craft Scorpion 230, (originally a merc 260) c.1994 GM5.7L engine, closed water cooled: I noticed today on the intake manifold, between the tubes the go to the cylinders, there is another bump on each side of the carburator that gets really hot. It feels like an uncooled exhaust manifold. Is this normal. Is this some kind of pre-heater? It is the brown colored area in the lower right corner of this photo:

Ayuh,......

That's the exhaust cross-over, for preheating the Carb,+ intake charge.....
And,.....
It's perfectly Normal.......
