Good morning guys,

I would like to ask You about some advice from You guys when replacing the intake manifold gaskets.

Finally I’ve found the leak in my 4.3L from 2005,

The oil leaks from the intake manifolds and I have to replace the gaskets I want to buy felpro replacement gasket. It seems pretty easy but in manuals and service bulletins I’ve found some colliding information.

I have to work on my boat on my own and with your help I’m doing pretty well (you’re the best guys) so here are few questions

  1. Serial number is
    0w326935
    should I use manual 25?
There is also service bulletin with different torque sequence… which one should I use?

  1. Now I’ve got white/gray silicone sealer but with replacement FelPros there is a black silicone. Is it better to use Ultra Gray Permatex or ultra black ? What do You think? When applying RTV sealer should I put it 1 layer on the gasket only?
  2. Should I put Perfect seal only around water ports or whole gasket smear with perfect seal according manual? I’ve found video ((
)) where this guy put silicone around ports
  3. To remove distributor, do I have to put the cylinder #1 into TDC position or it doesn’t matter?
  4. there is note about metal restrictor on the water port in the manual?
Thanks

Manual 25 - Yes
Torque is 11 Ft lB or 130 in lB
Should I put Perfect seal only around water ports or whole gasket smear with perfect seal according manual? I’ve found video ((
Pay no attention to the guy in the Vid
Use Black RTV bead along the flat, and put a ball of it in the corners where the head and intake meet, only

Do NOT smear it around the water ports, just make sure both head and intake a clean and dry. You don't want any oil or other substance on the surfaces. Use Acetone if need be to make sure to remove any oil residue.

Use perfect seal on the threads of bolts holding intake prior to installing

Before Distributor is removed, mark the intake and the dizzy so it can be installed in exact position as removed. Scribe the intake and dizzy, and the rotor position

Don't know about a metal restrictor port on intake

Only thing I do different is use PermaTex Aviation sealant around the water ports and gasket area around the water ports.and the intake bolts ,and a generous amount of Black RTV on the front and rear of the block.
The oil leaks from the intake manifolds

Only 3 places for that to happen, the dist gasket, the valve covers and the front and rear of the intake

In my thread, I think you remember it : I’ve found leak along the intake manifold, please have a look it looks like intake.
I’ve got new valve cover gaskets .

Your mixing
If intake is leaking then we're talking about this thread and the head and intake must be flat

If your talking about valve covers in the other thread then its of no concern of this thread

Ok sorry just asking.
How to check valve covers if it’s flat I think I can put it on the flat glass and check it. But how to check intake ?

you lay a mechanic's straightedge across the sealing surfaces and see what's the biggest feeler gauge you can slide in, no more than .003"

I have something like this, don’t have mechanic's straightedge

All the best

It will work sort of. The issue is it doesn't extend across the entire area

Felpro makes two style of intake gaskets as least for V8 one with a metal liner and one without. The one without reinforcement is for racing applications very easy to trim intake passages, the problem is over time gasket squirm causes leaks. I always used one with reinforcement. Only used Ultra Black on ends and super light coating around water passages.
