Re: Insulting Craigs List offers

That forum moves so fast.. It could be a full time job just trying to read everything that comes across in a day! If you have a link or know some key words I'd be interested in reading.

I was a bit irked, the buyer interested in my boat e-mailed me compliments on my GTO and other toys (regarding the condition I keep my toys) he saw on my FB page- makes me scratch my head that I thought I had the security settings pretty high as far as who can see what...

Lesson #1 - nothing you put on Facebook is secure, ever ever ever

As far as Facebook - I have never understood the Facebook privacy settings . . . or course I don't spend much time there.

I am not on there much, mostly keep in touch with some friends/ family and I thought I had things secure however it was a bit wierd someone is commenting on photo's of my cars exc when I thought I locked that.... I blame Zuckerberg!

I had 2 out of 3 people come and see it yesterday, the 2nd is leaving me a deposit today, the 3rd wants first dibs if the 2nd backs out. The first seemed confused and never owned/ or contemplated owning a boat till he showed up in my driveway so that went quick:loco: lol.

I came across an 03 Chaparral 23x... (nice boat) on E-bay in my area, guy wanted $4,900 which seemed like a red flag, it was advertised in my area so I wanted to see it... guy was skatey and didn't want to share location- wanted me to just "bid"... come to learn it is in NEBRASKA (if it even exists). E-bay took it down.

Ended up agreeing to a fair price pending a more thorough inspection on a Wellcraft Excalibur 5.7L we checked out last week so we are all excited for boating season 2014 to begin! :)

....I have put a lot of thought into the very succinct questions I will ask in an email or text inquiry if that is how they wish to communicate. Most will not answer them appropriately or skip one but not others which generally lets me know it is not the one for me.

Good to hear I'm not the only one that gets frustrated with that one. I ask a 3 or 5 very straight forward questions and get a reply that says "yeah it runs great"

I don't like a sales add that doesn't have a price. The add will often have details and wording trying to make the item sell for more but the moron placing the add for some reason often doesn't even give the millage . With no price I figure the guy is trying to price the customers and not his boat/car..........If you don't know what you will take for it DON'T LIST IT. Craigslist is a place to sell things not just show pictures and avoid the straight up front answers........scam alert!

I'm the same way. I don't give an ad a second look if it doesn't have a price.......
The pontoon boat I just purchased didn't have a price in it(Craigslist). I am sure it turned most people off so I think it actually ended up working to my advantage.

It was a dealer that was advertising it. What was interesting is that they requested my phone number to talk to me before giving any info. Maybe a way they dealt with all the scam emails going back and forth.

No price, no picture, no interest from me.

Generally I would agree and I often pass on ads such as this....BUT you never know what might lurk beneath that ad that has no picture or price. I've benefited from that in the past too.

Bruce, I would probably make an exception for a dealer ad. Private, not so much..

There is absolutely nothing on Craig's list that I need.

Every once in a while I find something I want, but I don't need anything and I turn off the dealers ad's, they are so obnoxious around here, I would not give them the time of day.

I didn't even know it was a dealer until I contacted them. I was surprised because I thought they were supposed to say it in the ad. The dealer was in Arizona. It may have said it somewhere but I missed it.

yes to all the above. private ads, I figure no price means he had a price and everyone said it was too high. he wants you to call so he can take 20 minutes to try and justify the price.

that or he's just too proud of it and I probably can't afford to own it. LOL

...I think the one case that gets me to re-think this kind of ad....is when there is very little information supplied at all.
Some people simply post in a really minimal way....and sometimes these items can be greatly undervalued by being very poorly marketed. This includes not showing/having a price.
That said, the ad that is 3 pages long with no price, thats a different story. You know this guy is going to talk for 48 minutes until you sneak a word in edgewise asking.."what is the asking price"...usually followed by another 20 minute tirade LOL.:D

Well, I have a deposit and tentatively sold it! (I don't get excited till the money is in my hand and I see tail lights):joyous:

Guy from last week who was all over it, had his mechanic come out yesterday and look it over- Mechanic was impressed with the engine and how solid it was. We went back and forth- He came up $1,300, I went down $500. I could have held out a bit longer but I can tell him and his family will give it a good home. Should be finalizing it shortly.

Good deal! That's the way it should work. You should be happy you got fair value for it, and that its going to a good home. The buyer should be happy that they got a fair price and a good rig. Now lets all get on the water!!
