I actually searched for this topic and it returned with "No Matches". However, I'm very sure I am not the first person to ask this question, so here goes. As some of you know, I am rebuilding an old '76 Tom Boy tri-hull fiberglass fishing boat. And being a tri-hull, there are known for a rough ride on anything but glass smooth water. And with that in mind, and with both my wife and I with already back issues, I was designing the seating sections with top-of-the-line nice seats that I bought from iboats for that job. However, I was initially going to just mount them on stainless steel swivels and already bought those SS swivels as well. But seeing the Lock'N Pin setup, it would seem that the little spring on the 3/4" post would add to the comfort level while traveling across the water. What does everybody think about those spring setups? Do they offer any softening of the ride or not? And exactly how does those Lock"N Pin design actually hold the seats on? I need to know so I can rebuy new seat hardware for this project if they work, and soon too... ?

I wouldn't buy anything like that if it didn't have a product description that explained how it worked and made the ride more comfortable. Probably just a rip-off if they can't tell you HOW their product is better.

Okay I guess I need to make this a little easier for everybody to understand.

Here is a picture of a Lock"N Pin seat hardware sold here on iboats.

Lock'N Pin.jpg

And here is the standard stainless steel swivel seat hardware also sold on here on iboats... Both fit most seat. I was wondering on a tri-hull boat, would the Lock"N Pin design soften the ride begin how it has that spring attached...

HAs anybody actually used the Lock"N pin design and if so does it actually easy the ride. And exactly how does it lock into position? They say it locks so it can't come off easily... I'm just wondering how!

I need to know because that does effect the seat design height on the boat and I need to make that design chance if I swap to the Lock"n Pin setup.

I had an old Chrysler Bass boat with that style of seat and they worked great. Not sure why it's called Lock n' pin. Mine just slid in and swiveled.

They look interesting, as long as the spring is long enough. I think I'd rather take the hit in my butt when the boat hits the wave than take the hit when the boat rises to the end of the spring and hammers my butt with rebounding vengeance. - Grandad

Wood, I had similar seat setups in my Bass Boat as well. And tough these look the same, some how they are suppose to lock into place. Now I actually like that feature because when traveling across the water and obviously hitting waves and such, a tri-hull is going to rattle your teeth. And I was hoping the spring took some of the hard hits a little better and that the seat doesn't come off. My wife will be going with me fishing some times and she presently has some back and neck vertebrae issues. I just thought it would soften the ride some. How it locks in place is what I am asking as well... IDK!

I think the "lock and pin" is describing the actual pedestal and not the seat base.

I can't see where that wimpy little spring would do very much even for my light buck and a half weight, let alone someone bigger or much bigger.

I would look into these [h=1]Springfield Keyed Plug-In Air Ride Pedestal W/Seat Mount - 14-3/4'' To 21''5602657.jpg[/h]

I'd like to add that skimping on a boat seats isn't something you want to do on a rebuild, go for the best you can afford so you will be comfortable out on the water. Comfortable seating on a boat is very important.

These seats sound like something I'd want on my boat:

When I bought my boat new, it came with the cheap low back regular bass boat seats. When they wore out I went with a Tempress high back and it made a world of difference out on the water. Those high back SAS seats sound even 10 times better than my high back Tempress and should be heavenly in a boat, especially for someone with back problems.

I gave $125 each for my high back Tempress 15 yrs. ago and thought I was getting raked over the coals... until I spent the first day sitting in them out on the boat and realized just how well my money was spent. Comfortable seating in a boat is not overrated.

Okay guys, don't get carried away. This is merely a tri-hull fishing boat design after a Bass Pro Pan Fish Special or a Crappie Rig. So the seats will be on top of storage boxes underneath and I already bought some very nice Wise high back nice seat from Iboats. I just need some convenient way to mount them to the top of the storage boxes. If I were refurbishing a nice Bass type boat, I would certainly go for the higher end products.

It doesn't matter what kind of boat, seats are important if you plan to actually use the boat. Nice seats in a 14' bench boat are even worth it. I hope the seats you bought work well enough for you.

I used these on a old 69 Skeeter Hawk. They did help with the ride. In rough water, I did bottom out a few times.
Mine did not lock. They just slid into the base plate.. I also bought some 3/4 pin extension poles and would transfer the seats from driver to bow at low speeds.
