Installing rod/floor locker?

I just bought a 1980 17 foot Imperial, and am getting all the bugs worked out of it, and it set up the way I want. It is nice and roomy, being an open bow, but it's lacking in storage. I've see some of these boats (18, 19, etc) have floor lockers installed in them. Is that something I could add?

If I had a fiberglass boat of that vintage that currently had seemingly solid floors....I would NOT go looking for trouble if you catch my drift ;)

In-floor lockers take away some of the hulls inherent strength. I would recommend you work some other angles for storage of fish rods. 1' PVC pipes make cheep fish pole holders and may be mounted on railings, or gunwale pads. I have some mounted under my jump seats in the rear of my 21 footer.
