inline mufflers?

i have a 454 with thru hull exhaust. just tone it down a bit. Has anyone had any luck with inline or insert mufflers? its 4"

If you have the room they are ok. Not quiet enough to have a conversation over, but better than just water muffled. They do wear out. But other than lots of parts swapping and a lot of money not much choice.
