I am having trouble getting the gearcase back on my motor after redoing the waterpump. Is there a trick? Everything seems to be lining up good. Water tube shift shaft and bolt holes. Am I missing something? Thanks With the shift shaft, what position should it be turned when replacing gearcase. Should it be all the way turned left or right or in the middle? Thanks again

Re: Inline 6 gearcase trouble

You need to rotate the flywheel back and forth until the driveshaft mates up with the crankshaft. Apply a small dab of grease to the driveshaft splines, what you can get on the end of your finger is plenty "too much grease and the driveshaft and crankshaft will not engage properly. The shift rod should be in Neutral position as well as the throttle, it is in neutral when you can spin the driveshaft and the prop will not turn.
