This may sound strange but I am Looking for "in water" tune-up of 40 merc outboard 2 stroke. There is nothing that I know of wrong with the engine but it has not been tuned up or had any repairs for 5 years (it ran right up until wecovered the boat for the winter last November) I would like someone to come to my doc (lake shore so no need to get wet), take a look at my engine and do preventive work if needed and also fix the RPM cable. The motor is on a 21 foot pontoon boat that is not easy to put onto a trailer.

I am in the metrowest Boston area -- if there is a professional or skilled amateur mechanic interested.

thanks

Re: "in water" tune-up

So how would you propose they do a tune up in the water without getting wet. Lower unit lub needs to be changed, plugs need to be changed, compression check, carbs adjusted and timing set (if you want a true tune up). Best I can suggest is contact your local marina or service facility. The fee will not be cheap but they will pick up the boat, take it to their shop, do whatever service you want them to do and return it so you. By the way -- don't tell them to fix the rpm cable. Tell them to make the tach work and that you noticed the problem might be the cable.
