I just bought a used 2007 supposedly BF50 an and I’m having trouble getting the hook up done correctly. This is all new to me so hopefully I can explain the problem where y’all can understand. The harness was removed from the motor when I got it, we jumped straight to the starter in order to do a compression test, around 100 psi on all 3 cylinders. It is missing the lanyard safety switch so I put a jumper in the plug to try and get it to fire on the stand but when I hook up the battery I can’t get any power anywhere on the engine. I think it is probably a simple overlook, but I don’t know where to start. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't help you with the electrics but you don't want to start it out of water. The rubber impeller will disintegrate if it starts.

Flashback, thank you, I plan on replacing the impeller before I put it in use, just wanted to make sure that the motor is good before I get too far along.

No harness. You are lost. I sure would be. Where are you going to find all the missing parts ?

Sorry if I was not clear, I have the harness, it was just not connected. I think I have it connected properly now but I can’t find power to anything testing with my multi meter. When I move the shifter lever, I can’t feel a neutral detent, only seems to have two positions. The shifter and throttle cables are not hooked up, but I have them.

Update, with the harness unhooked OR hooked with the key on, I can jump to the starter and it will fire/run with a shot of ether. With the key off, harness hooked, it will not fire, but there is still no power to the harness. Would a bad solenoid be the culprit?
