I have a 45 mercury Jet, used in the rivers in PA, The rivers have just un-froze here and we were out fishing last weekend. The motor was winterized up until then, now we will be fishing a few times a month until the summer months roll around. My question is what if anything should i do between uses with my motor as it is still cold here, below freezing at night and sometimes during the day still. I would say it will be used 3-5 times a month in this weather. Do I run it out of gas at the end of the day, should I run anything special through it, how do I make sure all of the water is out of the motor. Any suggestions will help. This is my first motor over a 15hp that is not old and never really taken care of. I wanna do it right. Thanks

Re: In Between Uses

I use mine in between deep freezes all the time. Just put the motor down all the way after use and all the water will exit. I never bother with draining the carbs even at the start of Winter. I just add some Stabil to the gas on the last trip in late Fall. Shouldn't even need to do that unless it sits idle for longer that a couple months between use.
