once you snap that aluminum filter base it is only two bolts to change it out. very simple to do you can get the base probably at a local parts store

taken a break. i ran a 3/8 selftapper in one of the holes that are in the top. i,m beating the hell out of it with a 5 pound mini sledge and it aint movin.i think im gonna drill another screw toward the outside of the top. its too close to the nipple.

20140322_002910.jpg i ran 3/8 head self tappers in the holes around the nipple hole. it took 4 of them to bang that b*&^*ch off. thanks again.

Nice looking boat there. Looks like a terrible spot to work on it.

If you think you'll forget which way, you could always write an arrow on the filter with "off" written when you install the new one, just in case.

thanks, I've got a lot work left to do on her but she,s a well built boat.theirs some rot that i have to get rid of and going to put together a new engine this summer.last year i bought some poly- glow at the boat show and it pretty much lasted almost the whole year. thats some amazing stuff. no sanding or buffing.havin fun workin on it. thanks again.

Ayuh,.... The confusion comes from lookin' at the threads from the wrong side,...

I am a bit late to this thread, but my thought was an air chisel. Would give the ability to shake it loose in a situation where there is little or no room to swing a hammer.
