Ignition conversion

Is it possible to take a 1975 650 mercury with a distributor. And convert it over with a newer ignition. With the trigger under the flywheel. Would the trigger housing and seal from a newer engine work on the older engine. Any ideas anyone

Get a newer motor is only way or buy old used parts..

You could modify a distributor from something else, but being 3cyl, it's kinda limited.. Geo Metro comes to mind as possible.. Bigger project though as it's converting to battery ignition
