Did you ever see it run or take a sea trial? Without the seawater pump turning it would overheat and burn up the rubber parts in the exhaust.

I bought it in-water but only ran the first time for a few minutes (leaking fuel pump-separate issue). When I picked her up we ran from the slip to the launch about 100-150 yards away.

I wasn't worried about a full sea trial. I usually buy fixxer uppers to some extent. Buy well below market. Fix/use. Sell at market value. Then do it again so I can keep moving to a better unit.

I knew she wasn't perfect. For my investment, I can almost sell the trailer and recoup my money. So for now, I just need to get all the water out of everywhere. I'm sure i'll find some issues that have been jury-rigged over the years and I will fix them in the spring. The first one seems to be the missing drive belt. I've done some reading in service manual 17 and the pump may be smaller and lower than I thought and I just wasn't low enough in the engine compartment to put hands on it. Today I ordered a new fuel pump. Easy fix. Found a leaking hydraulic hose on the trim tabs. I'm sure there's more. Since i do all my own work, I save quite a bit of money, get to go boating and keep upgrading.

The seawater pump is very low. It is next to the motor mount and can be a pain to get to.

Antifreeze or NOT!, you still need to drain the block!
If you think it is a drain, loosen it up until it starts to leak.
If you get a finger full of Oil, Put it back in and search for another one.

You already have the T-Stat Out so that is no longer a question. (But the preferred method!)
With a drained block and the T-Stat still IN, it would only effect the upper portions of the block which will have air and will not freeze anyways.
Even with the T-Stat in, except for the block, everything else, Power Steering, Fuel Cooler, Etc., will always be Antifreeze flushed.
After filling with antifreeze, Drain IT! Air doesn't freeze and the Antifreeze in the low spots that don't drain will be protected.
Save the drained Antifreeze for use again next year.

You can test the effectiveness of what went through the engine by placing a sample in a plastic bottle in a freezer.
-50 will slush up as hard as a snow ball but not rock hard like ice.
Add a gallon of -200 to the batch to strengthen the mix next year.

No Title

Found it all!!!

In the first pic above you can see where the middle belt is missing from the water circulation pump pulley. But the view is obstructed to the sea water pump. This tricked me into thinking the sea water pump was missing or had no belt.

In this photo, I was able to hold my camera very low and get several photos of the pump. I only attached one. IMAG0772.jpg

And finally, the stinking drain!!! Looks like it's in good condition which will facilitate removal.

It is near the bottom of the pic. Brass. View is almost straight up toward sky.Screenshot1.jpg

Just a tip. When you remove the hoses from the water pumps tighten the clamp back down on the hose so it can't fall into the bilge. It is a pain to get anything out of there. I had to get my 6 year old son to grab some stuff that fell in there.

I feel a little like an idiot. I knew the right way and was trying to take a shortcut. Luckily, you guys talked me off the ledge. She’ll be done and done right this weekend. Checklist below (will double check manual) Miss anything?

Manifold hoses off
(2) block drains (1-port, 1-stbd)
Sea water pump hoses (might as well replace impeller since I’ll have this whole area apart to replace fuel pump)
Power steering cooler
Water heater

Water and waste tanks are empty. Like bone dry, but I’ll double check.

Also pull the big hose that goes from the thermostat housing to the water pump. Take it off at the pump side. I leave my plugs out and put them in a baggy taped to the steering wheel so I don't forget in the sprint.
