I would get out of the countries where we are trying to control the government and come home. I would let the world know we will no longer police for each country. We will help those who treat their people correctly. If a country attacks us we will wipe their azz off the face of the earth, period. No smart bombs, no protect the public, just bam no more Afganistan or Iran or Korea. Toss a missle our way, bam, you are done. No more invasions to protect the people or save democracy just take care of American citizens.

Re: If I were in Charge

It ain't that easy. The current global state of affairs requires more than a cut, run, and knee jerk fix.Military occupation abroad is not a new concept in US security.

If a country/s attacks after a period of the US keeping its nose out of everyones business, there may not be an opprtunity to wipe anyones azz off the face of the earth except our own.Matter of fact,I we weren't so dang nosy,we wouldn't even know that North Korea had more than kimchi breath. With a missile defense system that's batting 500,I tend to feel more at ease not playing the counter puncher role, when it comes to nukes.

I'm glad you're not in charge.

You know TXS in theory that sounds like a great idea, unfortunantly in the global economy that we live in it just can't happen. I will certainly agree that we should quit sending money to countries that divert it to their Dictator for life and other abuses. We can't just build a wall around America and not let anyone in or out. Sounds like a good idea though!8)

And this is why I thank God every day that Kerrey lost so soundly. We simply cannot have these people in charger of the country's defense.

"There are those that would appease (a hostile power). They are blind to history's clear lesson, that appeasement leads to bloodier wars." Douglas MacArthur.

No appeasement from me, I say no smart bombs. If we attack then we attack. Hell, I suggested Packaging all our solid waste, put a small bomb in middle, take up in Buff and drop with detonation at 1500 ft. Imagine look out mom it is a refrigerator, or Asama watch out for the bowling ball, or ole my it looks like the kitchen sink. Gets rid of all trash, ours and the enemy.

Yep, 12 foot, had Gore or Kerry won, we would not have been in a 3 1/2 year war against a less than third rate country, spending half a trillion dollars, wounding, maiming, or killing 20 k of our citizens, without achieving anything.

Osama still runs free, and the Taliban are returning to Afghanistan.

With results like that, what more could you possibly want???

Another left wing fantasy.

C'mon, JB...What exactly have we achieved?

And don't say elections and democracy, yada, yada...
I'll believe that when I see a real working constitution over there, with minority rights, and shared power, etc.

Iraq will be stable when the new Iraqi leadership begins to rule that country with an iron hand.

Just like Saddam did.

That's the only way they will ever keep the Alqaida types out of the country

You are forgetting the people over there do not recognise borders. The insurgents in Iraq are not all Iraqis. The real Iraqis are sick and tired of all the terrorist crap going on. Remind yourself as to what the real goal of a terrorist is. It is to make the people frustrated with the government who can't do a damn thing about it. That is how you bring the government down.

As for TXS idea of isolationism, it won't work today. Our enemies would just love to see us lose our capacity to import oil. Can't you see what would happen? It would mean more than people would have to get out and walk for a change.

JB,

Your MacArthur quote is still spot on. Just ask Isreal. All that appeasement and where are they in just a year or two?

I bet if they just talked a little more and a little nicer things would have been different. History does repeat itself. Heaven forbid we learn from it. Even if it is recent history.

I guess it takes a small amount of compassion to understand our comittment, and brains to understand the scope of the threats to national security, PW. I will concede one mighty large failure in this war on the part of America, and that is wide-open borders. But you must be able to see where the war is being waged, to begin to understand where assets need to be sent. I'm just glad it's not Kerry or Murtha appointing a defense cabinet.
Is it perfect? No. But given the choices we had back in November 2004, I sincerely thank God.
And if you really are interested in good news, as opposed to the steady diet of alPBS, and the daily indoctrination of the "Daily cos", click this link... But knowing you like i think i know you, my bet is that you will not.

Its a scarey thought that I agree with you on this one.
On 9-11-01 I said the exact same thing.
Find out what country did this and turn the sand into Glass! Then say to the WORLD, who wants to be next!
A small part of me still thinks that would have been the way to handle it. (and I really do think that)

Thats why I'm glad you and I werent in Charge! There is a reason for everything and nothing happens by accident. (except kids) :) @ least thats what I tell mine ;)

12footer posted a great link.
I did not need to read it because I have been hearing the same stories first hand from people returning from Afganistan and Iraq for several years.

The fact is that if you or me had been "In Charge" these stories wouldn't exist! All the people would have been dead!

And that does bother me more than just a little.
GWB is a far better man than me. I'm glad that he was "In Charge"

Have a great weekend!
