Idle speed 40hp 2stroke

What should the idle speed be on this 82 40hp 2 stroke be.

That's what I was thinking trying to get one of those cheap tachs to work. Thx for the reply

I will be checking In water tomorrow and see what it is should be a bit lower so i didn't adjust it yet

You will also have adjust the Cable Length after any Idle Stop Adjustment. There needs to be a small amount of Preload on the Throttle Cable. Too much and it becomes difficult to shift, too little and the Idle Speed can be inconsistent

Thx for the info. Wouldn't want to mess it up. It works pretty good right now so I want to keep it that way.

A high Idle Speed puts incredible Stresses on the Drive Train upon shifts into Gear. There is no Slip Clutch to 'Feather' going into gear, it is either in gear or out of gear. A quick concise Shift is the correct way. If you hear any Clack Clack Clack, the shift is too slow. A too high Idle Speed results in a Nasty Violent Shift.
