You get guys like this:

http://peoria.craigslist.org/boa/3121038233.html

Nothing wrong with boat or the ad, really. Except he says the 3.0 is fuel injected. I sent him an e-mail asking if he'd be interested in a partial trade for a Z-71 pickup I have. I also told him as a side note that the engine wasn't fuel injected, and that they didn't exist until just last year. I hoped he'd take it kindly and change his ad.

Instead he e-mails back a picture of the engine (which is already in the ad) with the caption, "see fuel injected". To which I responded, "that's not what 'LX' means." I also told him to nevermind about a trade, I wasn't interested in the boat anymore.

I like that 45-50mph top speed he floated out there. I read an ad list nite, I may post it here later, about a 22 foot bowrider with 260 Merc that "will do 70+mph, "No BS". Yeah, maybe KMH.

technically he isn't wrong....you have to "inject" fuel into something (like the gas tank) for the boat to run....

well , at least he hasn't been near the engine.....who knows what he would think of the "throttle bodys with fuel lines going to them ".

i had a 91, and now own a 99, and its weird looking at this interior and seeing how it morphed from 91 to 99. i can see parts that are more 91 and others that are closer to the 99.

i got mid 40's out of mine on a 21p prop, but takeoff was slacking.

In defence of the seller...

I'd wager if you had a intake manifold and two bbl. carb, and one with a throttle body and sat them on a table 90% of the folks would have no clue which was which.

Just sayin...

Yeah, I had a TBI 5.7, and with the cover on, they look like a carb. But the procedure to START the engine tells you whether you have fuel injection. I know Turn Key Starting exists on Mercruiser carbs nowdays, but it didn't in 1996. The seller is stupid. He read 3.0LX "Digital Electronic Ignition" and thinks it means fuel injection. He doesn't know that means his distributor system. If he's than clueless about his fuel system, what else has he done to the boat that has harmed it???

Re: I love craigslist, but sometimes...

My father said I should have not said anything, gone to see the boat, then tried to start it like it was fuel injected. When it wouldn't start, offer him $1000 or $2000 since it's a "non-running" boat. Or if he pumped the throttle to start it (which he would have to), tell him I don't want the boat, because it's not what he said it was. But I don't have that much time to waste on the guy.
