Re: I just bought a 73 16 ss

update (kind of lol) I did get the seloc manual for my motor the good news first when cranking it over the prop starts to spin then stops when the oil activates neutral so i think the lower unit is good. The bad news all of the trouble shooting i did points to the power pack being bad and the compression 100, 120,120,130 i did that test 3 times and used 2 different compression tools. More bad news i had my boat in my garage for two weeks while i messed around the with the motor and the carpet was still wet. Upon pulling up the carpet (which the po put down indoor carpet) the floor is rotted i have removed most of the rotted floor and soak falling apart foam, still have to remove the consoles. please guys don't get mad i forgot to take pics of the before part. But ending on a good note i did score a 1971 merc 4cl 650 with controls and props and 350 dollars of receipts for the new water pump wiring harness and ign tune up including a new rotor shaft from the local dealer for a tune of 400 bucks and she purrs like a kitten. Can't wait till i get her back together and get on the water:D

We will forgive the lack of pics...this time ( not sure about CBK). Don't worry about leaving wet carpet in the boat, my bet is the floor was rotted anyway;) Youre going to want to get rid of all the bad wood and install new so that will be one less worry on the water. Welcome to the Tin club! Since you have a good hull, a good motor (congrats) and the Starcraft clan, you are well on your way:D Now, don't forget the pics nest time:mad: Dale

Douglas, great idea to let the wife help. It will give her and you a good feeling to know the finished boat was by both of yall's sweat and hard work. Trust me, having someone to go get the tools you need helps a lot, getting in and out of these things can wear a body out. You did mark all the wires before you cut them so you can put them back exactly like you found them didn't you:p
