Re: i have no respect for jetski's

I'll respectfully disagree here. The jetskiier is not the restaurant's business or issue. It is a legal issue that the tavern owner can take up with LEO on the water if he so desires, but its not his problem per se.

REALLY? The restaurants business is his livelyhood and as an owner I would make it my business that my customers were safe and happy. With out going to the LEO's the 1st line would be with the employee, as they are also a representitve of my business. If that employee was unresponsive to me as the owner then that person would soon be unemployed.

It's hard enough to make a buck and stay in business w/o having employees or associates of employees driving customers away.

Check out this guy--he really does it right. Catches all kinds of fish from the jet sli and runs all over the lower Chesapeake Bay and 20+ miles offshore. he's been filmed on several national television shows. And he is a great photographer.

He really knows what he is doing--well equipped, safety first, experienced.

And he drivers us local boaters crazy on the fishing forum b/c he posts how little gas he uses to get out there and catch big ones!

And I hate shore fishermen... There is a no-fishing sign for a reason, don't flip me off because I sucked up your line because you were fishing on the courtesy dock at the RAMP!

My biggest pet peave when using our local ramp!!! I call the cops local line once I'm away from the courtesy dock and file a complaint. When I come back usually they're gone. If they're still there I`ll call again after my boat is on the trailer and we're headed out of the parking lot.

I have 2 lakes near me that I like to take my boat to, Lake Icaria in Corning, IA and Black Hawk in Lake View, IA. Icaria doesnt allow jet skis, so that where we go 90% of the time.

Re: i have no respect for jetski's

I moved to a lake where their not allowed.

wow, sounds like Hitler's Lake.... LOL

c'mon people....there are idiot boaters EVERYWHERE....boats, pwc's, kayak's WHATEVER. There are going to be idiots that don't know what they are doing.

The only thing WE can do is whip them into shape, teach them safe boating, and teach our family/friends how to be respectful and responsible boaters !

Actualy its a very nice lake. And If you feel so inclined you can waist your time trying to whip them into shape. The problem with idiot control is god must love them a lot because he makes more ever day.

Re: i have no respect for jetski's

Checkmate, I think you hit on why so many (but not all) jetskiiers are problems to be around. A jet ski is not a boat, it is a novelty. Although a few people use them like boats (fishing, exploring, transportation) most use them for the limited purpose of a fast fun ride. Thus you have people who are there for the one purpose of hot-dogging, and likely that person is not a boater and thus doesn't know how his actions negatively affect boaters.

Oddly enough, the vast majority of boaters I know also use their boats for the same purpose, pure recreation!

Interestingly enough, using your definition, my PWC is far more of a boat than the other two I own! I'll often have a group of people on the sandbar, and using the PWC is by far the easiest way to shuttle a single person to/from the sandbar. I also use the PWC to explore backwaters and shallow creeks, places no boat would ever go. No fishing is allowed on any of my boats, so that one is a non-issue.

PWC's are absolutely boats. The difference is if the captain of the boat is a boater or not. They are often not.

Re: i have no respect for jetski's

Im going do drop my $.02 here. I would have to go with Jet Skis attract a certain type of people, the look at me, I am so great type of people. I have had way more jet skis come close to hitting me at the dock than boats. Honestly I could live without them on the lake. Im not too impressed with the brain function level I have seen coming out of people who like them. Mostly rednecks or young idiots in their Ed Hardy shirts saving up for their lime green Moomba with graphics covering the side

Hmm. I own a jet ski and I am planning on buying a Moomba next season (probably not lime green), guess I'll have to look up what an Ed Hardy shirt is ;)

Must vary from place to place, because I rarely see jet skis causing any problem on the lakes around here. It is normally the brain dead tube boat drivers running close to shore and weaving all over the place in traffic while not looking where they are going.

Jetskis are fun, boats are fun, its the people completely that ruin it for the rest of us.

You are absolutely right. Unfortunately where we boat the jetski idiots far outweigh the boat idiots.

I don't even think it's the majority of PWC operators. I have 2 and we ride like we are supposed to. I think (and if you think about it), you see a dozen or so each day on the water. But it's the 1 or 2 that leave the bad taste in your mouth. Pisses me off as well. But there's 10 or so that you never give a second look at that are buzzing around and not bothering anyone. Since they're not a nuisance, you don't even remember them. I think it's the minority, but gives all of them a bad name.

A jet ski is not a boat, it is a novelty.

Could I send this to my local wildlife in fisheries? Because they seem to consistently want money for me to register my novelty item.

I've seen more boaters that annoyed the crap out of me than jet skiers. I guess I should be hating on all the guys in their early 40's in bass boats with more horsepower than the truck they used to pull it with, because that demographic pisses me off far more than any other type of boat or age of boater.

I'm tending to agree with you on this observation as well. And to add to the subject, I started my boating interest as a fisherman. Here in Metro Detroit we are blessed with lots of water and great fishing, but when any of the fishing tournaments are in town, our ramps, lakes and general boating adventures turn into a bad dream. Boat launches are abused (power loading) no wake laws ignored, mutual respect seems missing, and it just forces the regular boaters to really think twice before thinking about going to the lake. I have owned jet skis and dont really have as much issue with them as I do the above situation.

Re: i have no respect for jetski's

Here too is another fisherman and many times view the boat as just another fishing tool. A means to an end as it were. I as a fisherman also see many others of us that seem to disregard the rules, especially tourney boats. At the same time I don't see as much of a problem with the jets as I do the skiers. They rate right up there with the tourney boats. As I've said before I don't need the ski show when I'm trying to relax quietly. And when they pass so close that I can read the label on their swim suit, well!!!!
