yesterday after 4hrs of tubing and playing on the water, we stopped at our favorite riverside watering hole,
for a pint, before making our way back to the launch.
well after i docked and sat down and had my first sip. these two jetskis come screaming to the docks, pull in drop off a girl for her shift.
creating such a wake that it started smashing our boats against the pier.
then as they get ready to leave they start horseplaying, and doing donuts right in front of my boat.
just as i get up to say something, they take off i see the waitress that was dropped off and told her about the laws and the lack of respect that her bf showed, and she just brushed me off. i was too far away to get a reg# but luckily my boat came out unscathed. sorry for the 1yr old seadoo jet boat beside me though his rub rail got torn off and he called the leos so lets see if i get a phone call in the next week for my testimony.

Agreed. I've seen more damage done by big cruisers running at half planing speed.

I do tend to agree that the preponderance of clueless boaters tend to be represented by them (PWC's).

When the waitress brush you off, the first thing I would have done was ask for the manager in charge. If the manger in charge was unresponsive, then I contact the owner. Waitress and her BF both have issues. When the BF dropped her off, then his issues become her issues and her issues are the taverns issues. Mangemenent should fix that problem real quick. If this were a land based tavern and the BF was doing donuts in the parking lot, they would not tolerate it. Neither should the waterside tavern.

It's the people not the equipment.
Admittedly though the majority of the "idiots afloat" are riding jetski's

At the pond I boat at the most the jetskiers are a big problem the cut you off speed by and take up the hole ramp letting riders on and off all day. Now with that I will say if I had one I would play as hard as they do juat not around other boats. The poor old guy at the dock gets his *** handed to him if he says anything so they just keep it up.

I'm fortunate because for all the problems the really big boat captains cause around here, the jet skiers are fairly well behaved.

Now a boater, but as a former jetski owner, we used to say the same things about boaters. They take off from the dock at full throttle, come in super fast and then put it in reverse at the last moment to not hit the dock, have no respect for anyone else out on the water, etc. It's not the machines, its the people and everyone thinks its a problem with the "other" people.

Jetskis are fun, boats are fun, its the people completely that ruin it for the rest of us.

I'll respectfully disagree here. The jetskiier is not the restaurant's business or issue. It is a legal issue that the tavern owner can take up with LEO on the water if he so desires, but its not his problem per se. The tavern owner is not responsible for how his worker gets there or who takes her there. The waitress was not on duty at the time she showed up for work so her issues are not the tavern owners issues or business. If she had been on the clock, then yes, it would be her boss's business. Now, he might say something to her about the "situation" but she can full well ignore him as it is none of his business. His issue is with the guy dropping her off, not her, and needs to take it up with him. If I'm heading to work and am running late, the last thing I need or want is someone lecturing me, whether they are in the right or not, and would probably brush that person off also.

Don't be most are a real pain have had boat bumped more than once setting at the docks. Plus they run full speed thru the no wake zones I am sure there are good one's out there but the idiots out number the good ones. I think they just do not know or care to know the rules on the water or at the ramps.

By the time she gave him the brush-off response, she was "on the clock". Or at least that is the way I read it. I can speak for Ontario (where the original complaint was from), but here in Michigan, unless she is in a union, you can be fired for activities outside of work that reflect on your employer. Having a rude SOB drop you off at work would appear to reflect on the employer, at least in my opinion. In my opinion, she needs to learn to tactfully ignore that sort of comment. Bars an such are SERVICE oriented. That means not making a customer mad. The customer is ALWAYS right. She needs to learn that. All she needed to say is, "Gee sir I am sorry, sometimes he is a real jerk" or something similar.

And I hate shore fishermen... There is a no-fishing sign for a reason, don't flip me off because I sucked up your line because you were fishing on the courtesy dock at the RAMP!

Re: i have no respect for jetski's

Ive owned a Jet Ski for last 2 years........I dont think it's the equipment but rather the operator!

Now the tavern owner...sure he could brush it off too, but if he wants to keep a fine establishment then i would address the waitres about her BF behavier at the dock. If it happens again id call the Leo.

What i think is a lot of younger people are buying jet ski's becouse they can go boating for half the cost of reg boating and can tow it with a Ford Taurus.....And they dont know a thing about boating regulations or boat laws.
I made both my kids (16) and (23) take the boating ed course before they could get on it......

We were docked the beach last weekend....sitten and chillen and here comes this guy backing down thru the grass onto the beach with a Jet Ski......Backs into the water and dumps it, has his bimbo GF hold it in the water while he goes to park a half mile away. He comes back with a cooler full a beer....set up shop on the beach....then they both get on it a blast from the beach. There is a 1/4 mile no wake-zone from the edge of the beach to the buoy.

They come back a little later...i go up to him and say didnt ya see the ramp sign down the road that's where you drop the ski in the water.......(No motor vehicles on the beach).... And also see the buoy out there.. it's say's no wake from here to the buoy.

It just goes to show ya...Disregaurd for the Safety and rules. Just like the road way's

Re: i have no respect for jetski's

Checkmate, I think you hit on why so many (but not all) jetskiiers are problems to be around. A jet ski is not a boat, it is a novelty. Although a few people use them like boats (fishing, exploring, transportation) most use them for the limited purpose of a fast fun ride. Thus you have people who are there for the one purpose of hot-dogging, and likely that person is not a boater and thus doesn't know how his actions negatively affect boaters.

Like the old dune buggies on the beach conflicting with the surf casters, or ATV's and trail bikes off road conflicting with the hikers, hunters and quiet explorers.

Sure, you can use a motorboat to hot dog (as you can a beach vehicle or 4WD jeep) but those are more likely used for more sedate activities.

Personally I can't see spending several thousand dollars on something with such limited use. You can get a lot more out of a small motorboat. But that's just an aquatic version of the motorcycle v. car debate.
