During fixing carb & fuel pump in my 1989 90HP Mariner outboard, I created a new problem. I cranked too many time. I never hold cranking more than 10 sec and waited to cool down before next trial. I thought it drained a battery too low to crank a starter motor, but even with a new battery it doesn't crank. It's not completely dead. It crank sometime in once, sometime in 100th time.

I searched forum and found that my starter could have a bad spot, so I took out the starter motor and tested it with extra battery before I disassemble for cleaning. It works okay with battery connected directly.

I still get click sound from starter solenoid and beep sound from key box.

Any idea?

Check the voltage coming out the other large terminal on the starter solenoid when cranking. If no voltage or greatly less than 12 v replace the solenoid.
