I cant get fire through coil?

I have an 85 mercrusier 170 that ran great stopped for a swin an would not fire back up. I have good voltage to the coil but will not pass through to dist. I have om'ed both old and new coils(10.65-11.93) any ideas where to go next?

Probably nothing more than in need of a new set of points. but read this thread on troubleshooting a points system.

Don, I found your postings on troubleshooting after I posted earlier.....THANK A MILLION.....I have a better understanding of the system. I have narrowed it down to the gray (ground or tach wire). where in the world does this wire ground out ...I followed it to a spagatti mess somewhere behind the block. I have replaced the points, condensor, rotor, and the coil earlier this week ( and all day today) double checked my work, could it be in the ignition switch. I disconected the gray(-) and jumped the (+) straight to the battery and it fired immedeately......I know this is something simple, but I'm mindscrambled!!!!!!

The gray wire goes to the tach.
