Alright, I've read some conflicting things about high-speed & low-speed needles.
My motor starts up great and runs in the barrel with the throttle at the START position - but sneezes and dies when I try to move the throttle to SLOW.

Which is which?
I believe the needle with the large dial on top is the high-speed? Then the L-shaped needle on the front of the engine block is the low-speed?
Do I have this right?

Nice to meet you Chris,will keep you in mind if I decide to go further with this motor ,its a TN 26 that I have ,the stater ,tank, magnetto missing

The TN-26 will have a completely different mag assembly as the 27 and 28, so be sure of your model number.

yes you are correct, the L shaped needle is the low speed . generic setting should be 3/4 turn out from lightly seated. ( they can be very sensitive, so make small adjustments and give it a few seconds to react)

A good starting point for the low speed, is 5/8 turn out.

Yea as both stated, 3/4 turn out is the starting point for adjustment, but usually, if not always, find that the TN ends up being about 5/8 of a turn out by the time Im done.

If it is still lean sneezing we will have to dig deeper
