Duals prove every spectator sport will shove a meaningless pre season in your face. Should be renamed to something like ESPN presents Expensive Practice.

With the new Charter stuff, the Duels became meaningless except for the Open drivers. And even that is messed up - Blaney and DiBendetto got starting spots because they were the 2 fastest Open cars, so only 2 other Open spots are left.

Just don't wreck your car will probably be team orders.

These "charters" makes me wonder if Nascar did this for the SPONSORS. This is supposed to be "racing" and I doubt there are any teams out there that would not want to "race" their way in. How boring is Nascar trying to make this sport...???

No doubt it's for sponsors.... Sponsors know now that if their car has a charter it will be in every race for 9 years.

I saw a few articles that mentioned the words sold or bought when discussing charters. It also appears that they are valued at over one million. Makes me wonder if they (nascar) received a payment for each charter up front. Quick way to raise $36 million.

The Charters may give the teams more stability and a better voice in Nascar. It reminds me of team owners in the NFL and MLB.

Funny you should mention that, NASCAR radio personnel has been saying the same..... Funny thing is, not too long ago they said they didn't want to look like any other professional sport. Go figure....

Nascar is different. The NFL, NBA,, NHL, MLB etc. are owned by the team owners. Nascar is owned by the France family. The RTA only has presumed powers, but I'm willing to bet formation of the RTA was a player revolt and automatic race entry/revenue sharing through the Charter system is a way to placate the RTA/owners. With out the owners, Nascar is nothing. Make no bones - The RTA is nothing more than a owners union!

And that's why the Wood Brothers left the RTA. As one of earliest Nascar race teams and one of the RTA expansion members and moving to a full-time presence in 2016 after several years of part-time operations, they expected and were probably told they would be chartered. Then RTA/Nascar changed the rules and WBR would not share in revenue. Trust me, RTA membership is not free and Wood Bros. Racing saw no benefit.

The Duels are on starting at 7PM EST to set D500 spots 3-40. Actually spots 37-40 because the the other 34 are only jockeying for position. This Charter junk is really going to make qualifying an anticlimax.

Some of us need all the help we can give! LOL

The pair are only 60 laps each. With 3 DQ'ed qualifiers and and a few cars wrecking during the 4th practice, is there enough room for all of the cars starting at the back?

Dale Jr won D1 and Shrubby won D2. D2 ended with a big one involving 7 cars. The last row at the Green flag on Sunday will be crowded with all those sent to the back.

A good an answer as I could expect. LOL

Only caught the last 7 laps on MRN. Had Bell doing a roof ride on the final lap. Johnny Sauter took the checkers.

How did the 20 minute heats work out?
