My depth finder which is a year old, and has done this since the beginning. It shows the correct depth but…for example say the depth is 10 feet. It will read 10 ft but then jump to 2 ft then back to 10 and does it all the time. The older one never did and I am pretty sure I installed the new transducer in the exact same spot as the old one

When I pull it out of the water I’ll do that. Gotta dig my trailer out of the mass of trailers at our marina lol

Turbulence is the only thing that would cause a transducer to fluctuate that wildly.

Different transducers have different performance characteristics. Unless you replaced the old with the same transducer don’t count on it being installed correctly.

Could have gotten a bad transducer right out of the box

It fluctuates while the boat is tied to the dock. And has done this since I installed It. I’m gonna take the old depth finder down today and plug it in and see if it does it as well.

I had a depth finder do that only it would go from 2 feet to 100 and back. Made the unit completely useless. I replaced the transducer and all is good. Funny how dependent you get on them.

If it does it while tied to the dock, you have a bad transducer.

I wouldn't connect the old head unit unless you've confirmed the transducer frequency and output power are the same as your old unit. You would not be happy with the results of a mix matched pairing ;)
